Airbus Helicopters has issued a service bulletin to H175 operators calling for inspections of the horizontal stabilizer.
This follows the detection of a structural damage during routine inspections on a customer helicopter.
As is standard practice, these precautionary measures have been followed up by EASA-mandated airworthiness directives.
We are in direct contact with our customers to minimise the impact on their operations.

Why were we not flying?
On 19.06.2019, one of the H175 operators discovered a crack on the horizontal stabilizer during the daily inspection. Since this was a first occurrence of such nature, as a consequence on the same day in the evening Airbus Helicopters issued a speed limit restriction to 80 knots until the global fleet- wide inspection has been performed.

What actions did NHV take?
NHV has taken an immediate decision not to perform any flights with the H175 until the detailed inspection of its own fleet has been completed to ensure none of its aircraft is affected. NHV also informed relevant authorities about the incident, and the reason for the decision not to fly. NHV worked in close cooperation with the manufacturer to perform the relevant inspections, followed by communication to its customers.

What where the reasons to resume flying?
On 20.06.2019, NHV received a detailed instruction from the manufacturer on how to perform the necessary inspection. This inspection was immediately carried it out on the NHV fleet. Our technical department confirmed that none of our aircraft were affected, and the restriction has been removed as granted by Airbus and endorsed by EASA. The helicopters were released back to service.
NHV is currently performing this detailed inspection on a daily basis to closely monitor our fleet, while staying in close follow-up with the manufacturer to identify the root cause of the incident that affected the other operator's aircraft.
